Greek Driver's Parking Job Sparks Outrage Online

A case of illegal parking in Greece has sparked widespread condemnation on social media. A driver parked their car directly on a pedestrian crossing and, to make matters worse, covered it with a tarp, suggesting an intention to leave it there for an extended period. Illegal parking has become a rampant issue in Greek cities due to the scarcity of available parking spaces. Violations frequently involve parking on ramps for people with disabilities, blocking building entrances, and obstructing sidewalks, creating significant problems for pedestrians and diminishing the quality of life. According to the Highway Code, parking on a pedestrian crossing carries a fine of 30 euros and can result in a 40-day driving license suspension. However, a vehicle can legally remain parked in a public space for up to 90 days, provided circulation fees are paid and the vehicle is insured. If this limit is exceeded, the vehicle may be considered abandoned and removed.
