Marikkou of Lefkara to Come to Life as a Hologram Guide

The Larnaca – Famagusta Development Company is planning to digitally revive the legendary figure of Marikkou of Lefkara, creating a holographic Avatar that will serve as a guide for tourists in the countryside of Larnaca. The competition for the implementation of the project has already been published, with a deadline for submissions of January 28, 2026. The holographic Avatar will be installed at the Mountainous Larnaca Environmental Information Center in Skarinou and will provide information about the cultural and historical sites of the area through dialogue with visitors. The project includes an 86-inch 4K touchscreen and a computer to operate the Avatar, as well as lip and gesture synchronization for a more realistic experience. The Avatar will be able to present content related to interactive maps, virtual walks, virtual museums, and other digital applications. It will be designed based on the appearance of Marikkou of Lefkara, a famous 19th-century embroiderer and entrepreneur, and will be able to communicate in Greek and English. At the same time, the company is seeking bids for an Avatar in the form of Leonardo da Vinci. The aim of the project is to address digital illiteracy in the area and promote tourism and education.
