Cyprus is bidding farewell today to former President George Vassiliou, who passed away at the age of 94. His funeral will be held at public expense with honors befitting a head of state, and will be attended by top officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Giorgos Gerapetritis. The body of the deceased will be transferred in the morning to the Holy Church of Hagia Sophia in Strovolos, on a gun carriage and accompanied by the Police Philharmonic. The family will receive condolences at the church from 11:30 am, and the funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. The Greek Government will be represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, who will also deliver a eulogy. Eulogies will also be delivered by the President of the Republic, the Rector of the University of Cyprus, associates of the deceased, and his son. The burial will take place at the Aglantzia Municipal Cemetery with a salute of honor. A crowd of people, colleagues and ordinary citizens of all ages, attended the public viewing at the same church on Friday. Reports highlight his integrity, modesty and modernizing work. His wife, Androulla Vassiliou, expressed her grief over the loss of a "man with all the letters in capital letters" and emphasized his constant concern for the reunification of Cyprus.
