Interconnection: Can't We Even Get an Update?

There is a lack of information from the media in Greece and Cyprus regarding the update of the techno-economic data for the Cyprus-Crete electricity interconnection. Despite the decision of the two countries' leaders to conduct the update study two and a half months ago, no substantial progress has been made. The Greek side reportedly wants a study that will highlight the prospects of profits for investors, while the Cypriot side seeks a study that will prove that the interconnection will lead to cheaper electricity for consumers. A teleconference was held on Friday between the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy, RAEK, RAEUY and ADMIE, without any substantial outcome. ADMIE is pressing for the payment of the €25 million committed for 2025, while RAEK is trying to buy time.
