Police Leadership Clarifies Changes to Work Schedules

Published December 31, 2025, 12:12

The Police leadership, through spokesperson Byron Byronos, is clarifying its position regarding the proposed changes to working conditions. The modernization of the Force is based on three pillars: the correct application of regulations, personnel, and technological development. The Chief's statement that “you won’t get rich in the Police” was made to emphasize the fight against corruption and not to devalue the profession. According to the leadership, overtime will not be abolished, but there will be stricter control over the use of days off, which were often used to perform additional duties instead of rest. The established 37.5-hour weekly working hours will be strictly enforced. No significant reduction in the overall earnings of police officers is expected, and any minor differences will be compensated. The Police leadership acknowledges the reactions of trade union organizations (PASYDY, SEK, ISOTITA) but respects their right to unionize and recognizes that different opinions may exist within the unions. It is emphasized that the implementation of the Chief’s announcements is certain. A meeting with the Minister of Justice is expected soon to discuss these issues. The Police leadership aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the Force and the well-being of its personnel, alongside the fight against corruption and the strengthening of transparency.
