Τα δύο ιστιοφόρα ενός κομβόι που μετέφερε ανθρωπιστική βοήθεια από το Μεξικό στην Κούβα εξακολουθούν να αγνοούνται, ανακοίνωσαν η Ακτοφυλακή των ΗΠΑ και ένας εκπρόσωπος του κομβόι.
Η Ακτοφυλακή ανέφερε ότι η έρευνα για τον εντοπισμό τους «συνεχίζεται».
Νωρίτερα, το Γαλλικό Πρακτορείο επικαλέστηκε δήλωση ενός εκπροσώπου της Ακτοφυλακής, σύμφωνα με τον οποίο τα πλοιάρια έφτασαν με ασφάλεια στην Κούβα. Ο εκπρόσωπος αυτός είπε στη συνέχεια στο πρακτορείο Reuters ότι η αρχική δήλωσή του ήταν λανθασμένη.
Η Ακτοφυλακή ενημερώθηκε για τα δύο αγνοούμενα σκάφη αλλά δεν έλαβε αίτημα για βοήθεια στις έρευνες, που διεξάγονται από το Μεξικό και την Κούβα. «Παραμένουμε σε επαγρύπνηση και είμαστε έτοιμοι να παράσχουμε βοήθεια, εάν ζητηθεί», ανέφερε.
Τα πλοία έφυγαν από το Ίσλα Μουχέρες του Μεξικού στις 21 Μαρτίου και αναμενόταν να φτάσουν στην Αβάνα μεταξύ 24-25 Μαρτίου. Η πρόεδρος του Μεξικού Κλαούντια Σεϊνμπάουμ είπε νωρίτερα ότι οι έρευνες συνεχίζονται και ότι συνολικά στα δύο σκάφη επέβαιναν εννέα άτομα.

US: 2 Humanitarian Aid Sailboats to Cuba Remain Missing
Two sailboats carrying humanitarian aid from Mexico to Cuba remain missing, according to the US Coast Guard and a convoy spokesperson. The Coast Guard confirmed that the search for them is ongoing, after initially issuing an incorrect statement about their safe arrival in Cuba. The Coast Guard has not received a request for assistance from Mexico or Cuba, but remains on standby to provide help if requested. The ships departed from Isla Mujeres, Mexico, on March 21st and were expected to arrive in Havana between March 24th and 25th. A total of nine people were on board the two vessels, according to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The Coast Guard's initial announcement of the ships' safe arrival proved to be incorrect, causing confusion and concern. The search continues in cooperation with Mexico and Cuba, while the US Coast Guard remains vigilant. The situation remains unclear and the fate of the two sailboats and their passengers is unknown.
