US: Killed or Captured 25 ISIS Members After Retaliatory Strikes in Syria

The US and its allied forces have killed or captured approximately 25 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) in retaliation for recent attacks in Syria, the US military announced. The strikes were carried out on December 19 against dozens of ISIS targets, in response to an attack that resulted in the deaths of two US service members and an interpreter in Palmyra. According to CENTCOM, operations conducted between December 20 and 29 led to the neutralization of at least seven ISIS members and the capture of the rest. Four ISIS weapons caches were also destroyed. The attack that prompted the US response was carried out by a member of the Syrian security forces with “extreme Islamist views,” according to Damascus authorities. The US responded with airstrikes against jihadist targets in Syria. The announcement underscores the US commitment to combating terrorism and protecting its military forces in the region. The operation aimed to weaken ISIS and deter future attacks.
