Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, announced that the Russian army has recruited over 422,000 contract soldiers in 2025. This number is down 6% compared to the previous year. Additionally, 32,000 people have signed up for voluntary military service contracts. Medvedev stated that a total of approximately 450,000 people have signed contracts to serve in the Russian army since 2025, while another 40,000 have enlisted as volunteers for the “special military operation” in Ukraine. Russian authorities have intensified recruitment efforts since the start of the offensive in Ukraine, offering attractive salaries and benefits. However, some regions have reduced bonuses due to financial constraints.
