European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are travelling to New Delhi for the 16th EU-India Summit. The focus of the summit is the completion of the EU-India free trade agreement, which has been under negotiation since 2007. An official announcement of the agreement is expected on January 27th, although negotiations continue on issues such as fisheries, tariffs and geographical indications. The agreement will create a single market of almost 2 billion people and reduce tariffs for European exporters. Simultaneously, a new comprehensive EU-India strategic agenda will be adopted and a partnership for security and defence will be signed.
