Name Change of SPEL Sparks Confusion and Concerns – Modern Art Museum Advisory Committee Anxious

The Deputy Ministry of Culture has decided to rename the State Gallery of Contemporary Art SPEL to the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, causing unrest and concern within the artistic community. The decision is accompanied by the admission that the creation of the new Museum of Contemporary Art will be further delayed, intensifying fears that the project may be frozen. The Museum of Contemporary Art Advisory Committee expresses strong disappointment and anxiety, as it had no prior information about the renaming and questions the effectiveness of the new structure. The Committee had worked to establish the new institution, studying evaluation criteria and service plans, but now feels that its efforts are being undermined. The Deputy Ministry justifies the decision with financial difficulties and the need to present something immediately to the public, but the Committee fears that the renaming will create confusion and further delay the implementation of the vision for a comprehensive Museum of Contemporary Art.
