Eight Dead in New US Strikes Against Alleged Drug Trafficking Vessels

Published January 1, 2026, 07:26

At least eight people have been killed in new US strikes against vessels allegedly involved in drug trafficking. The raids, which took place in the Pacific and Caribbean, are part of a wider military campaign launched in September, aimed at combating drug trafficking and putting pressure on Venezuela. The Trump administration has labeled drug traffickers as “terrorists,” while Venezuela denies the accusations and accuses the US of seeking regime change to gain access to its oil reserves. In total, at least 115 people have been killed since the start of the campaign.
