Turkish Official Accuses EU of Being 'Captive' to Greece and Cyprus

Omer Celik, spokesperson for Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), launched a sharp criticism of the European Union, accusing it of being 'captive' to Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration (as he refers to the Republic of Cyprus). Celik claimed that the EU has been limited to a small geographical area and has lost its global influence due to the adoption of the positions of Greece and Cyprus. He also argued that Turkey's prospect of joining the EU has become crucial for maintaining the sustainability of the Union itself. Simultaneously, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed his support for the Iranian regime, accusing Israel of exploiting the protests in Iran.
