Weather Boosted Clothing Sales During the Holidays

Retail sales during the holidays and the days leading up to New Year's were satisfactory and better than in previous years, according to POVEK General Secretary, Stefanos Koursaris. The market performed well, particularly in essential goods, while the change in weather and the drop in temperature also helped other sectors, such as clothing and footwear. Mr. Koursaris added that some consumers may be waiting for the start of the sales period to make further purchases. The festive atmosphere, the Cypriot mentality, and the preparation for the Christmas and New Year's table created a positive climate for shopping. Regarding inflation, Mr. Koursaris stated that in such cases and during the holidays, inflation tends to take a backseat, as consumers focus on meeting their families' needs. However, he acknowledged that inflation exists and that some consumers made more conservative purchases. In conclusion, Mr. Koursaris described the year as good and satisfactory compared to others, despite the economic pressures faced by some citizens.
