BirdLife Cyprus has announced the return of over 40 vultures to the Cypriot skies, for the first time since the 1990s. This increase is due to years of conservation and population enhancement efforts, such as the detection of poisoned baits, informing livestock farmers, and vulture release programs. However, the organization emphasizes that progress is fragile and further reducing the use of poisoned baits and improving the electricity grid to prevent electrocution are crucial. Despite the positive steps, poisoning and electrocution remain serious threats to vultures in Cyprus.
