Palestinian Embassy Condemns Israeli Decisions Regarding Holy Site in Hebron

The Palestinian Embassy in Nicosia strongly condemns Israel's decision to remove planning and construction authority at the Holy Site of the Ibrahimi Mosque (Tomb of the Patriarchs) from the Hebron Municipality, as well as the unilateral approval of a roofing project in the mosque's courtyard. The Embassy characterizes this decision as a dangerous escalation of Israel's policy of imposing faits accomplis by force in occupied Hebron. The Palestinian side argues that the decision is a direct attack on the historical, religious, and cultural identity of the Palestinian people and blatantly violates international law, including the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict. Additionally, the Embassy states that the decision violates binding United Nations resolutions, particularly the 2017 UNESCO decision listing the Old City of Hebron and the Ibrahimi Mosque as a World Heritage Site in Danger. The Palestinian Embassy calls on the international community, the United Nations, the European Union, and all relevant international organizations to immediately assume their legal and moral responsibilities and compel Israel to end its illegal actions and respect the historical and legal status of the Ibrahimi Mosque.
