OEΒ's Outlook for 2026: Costs, Competitiveness, and EU Presidency

Published January 1, 2026, 07:25

The OEB (Federation of Employers and Industrialists) assesses 2025 as a year of intense pressure for businesses due to geopolitical uncertainties, regulatory requirements, and technological changes. Key issues included the need to enhance competitiveness, high operating costs, and digital/green transformation. The OEB emphasized that rising labor costs, through the ATA and minimum wage, undermine competitiveness. It also highlighted the need for a simple and stable tax framework, as well as addressing the labor shortage. 2026, with Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the EU Council, brings additional responsibility to present a modern and competitive economy.
