Rio's New Year's Eve Party Breaks Guinness World Record

Rio de Janeiro's New Year's Eve celebration on Copacabana Beach has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest in the world for 2026, attracting approximately 2.5 million people. The city's mayor, Eduardo Paes, received the honorary plaque during this year's festivities, which will feature a performance by Brazilian music legend Gilberto Gil. The recognition was based on the record number of attendees, the scope of the artistic program, the size of the event space, and its cultural significance, confirmed through drone photography. Mayor Paes expressed his honor at the validation, emphasizing that no other city organizes events with such a large turnout and dedication. The Copacabana celebration is renowned for its crowds dressed in white and spectacular fireworks displays. This year's event will include 12 minutes of fireworks and a show with 1,200 drones. Furthermore, 13 stages have been set up throughout the city, with 3 of them on Copacabana, where 3,500 police officers will be deployed to ensure public safety. Rio de Janeiro has also seen record tourism numbers, welcoming approximately 2 million foreign tourists from January to November, despite safety concerns.
