Mitsotakis to Meet with Farmers Today at Maximos Mansion

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet with representatives of farmers today at the Maximos Mansion, with the participation of government officials and the AADE. The meeting is expected to discuss the demands of the farmers and the possibilities of government intervention, taking into account fiscal margins and European rules. The Prime Minister has already set the framework for the discussion, emphasizing that the government chooses dialogue, but without easy promises. The expansion of beneficiaries for low-price electricity and the provision of oil without special tax and VAT on the discount have been accepted. In addition, a separate meeting will be held with representatives of the livestock industry to address the problems caused by foot-and-mouth disease. The government is seeking a fair, transparent and effective system of agricultural subsidies that will support real producers and promote the development of the primary sector. The farmers will present their list of 14 demands at the meeting, focusing on production costs, tackling foot-and-mouth disease and compensating for lost income. After the meeting, general assemblies will be held at the roadblocks to assess the results and determine the next steps.
