Health Ministry Investigates Doctor Following Multiple Complaints

Following complaints from 16 doctors against a colleague, the Ministry of Health is investigating serious allegations of bullying, inappropriate behavior, and failure to respond to emergency calls. Two separate investigations are underway: one by the Cyprus Organization of State Health Services (OKYPY) regarding an initial complaint from 14 doctors in November 2024, and another by the Directorate of Limassol General Hospital, concerning complaints submitted in November 2025. Reports indicate that the doctor has begun responding to emergency calls in the last three months. The president of the Pancyprian Association of Government Doctors, Sotiris Koumas, expressed concern over the lack of updates from OKYPY regarding the progress of the complaints, emphasizing that doctors expect to be informed of the outcomes and potential penalties. He highlighted that the complaints demonstrate the integrity of the majority of government doctors, but such behavior should not be generalized. Mr. Koumas described the allegations as “particularly serious” and stressed the need for immediate and transparent handling of the matter. The situation at the hospital is described as “volatile” due to the overall tension among doctors in the department. This case highlights the need for effective mechanisms to address bullying and inappropriate behavior in healthcare, as well as to ensure the mental health and safety of workers.
