Asprokremmos Reservoir at 32.5% Capacity - Water Conservation Urged

The Asprokremmos reservoir is currently at 32.5% capacity (17 million cubic meters of water), while the reservoirs of Agia Marina Chrysochous, Pomos, and Argaka have already overflowed. The Pafos District Officer of the Water Development Department, Charis Kasioulis, expressed satisfaction with the overflows but stressed the need to avoid wasting water. The Agia Marina Chrysochous reservoir is part of the Chrysochous irrigation project, which includes a total of four reservoirs, the largest being that of Evretou. Mr. Kasioulis mentioned that the Asprokremmos reservoir, the second largest in Cyprus with a total capacity of 51.2 million cubic meters, is extremely important for the water supply and irrigation of the area. Despite satisfaction with the overflows of the small reservoirs in Paphos, Mr. Kasioulis emphasized that there should be no complacency and that avoiding unnecessary water use is essential. The overflow of the reservoirs is a positive sign, however, maintaining caution and rational management of water resources remain critical. The continued inflow of water into the reservoirs is encouraging, but should not lead to complacency. In summary, the situation of the reservoirs in Cyprus is satisfactory, with the overflows being a positive development. However, the need to avoid wasting water and the rational management of water resources remain of utmost importance in addressing the challenges related to water scarcity.
