Proposal for 'Citizenship' for Turkish Homebuyers in Occupied Cyprus Discussed

According to a report in the Turkish newspaper Sabah, a proposal is being considered to grant 'citizenship' to Turkish citizens who purchase property in occupied Cyprus. The aim of the proposal is to absorb the large stock of newly built homes, estimated at 20-25 thousand units, mainly in the Trikomo area. The regulation, as proposed, would apply exclusively to Turkish citizens, and the financial threshold for obtaining 'citizenship' will be determined after legal and technical assessments. Property prices in the area range from $120,000 to $200,000, and the possibility of exploiting the properties through short-term or long-term rentals is emphasized. At the same time, concerns are expressed within the construction sector regarding potential actions by the Republic of Cyprus in the European Union against individuals and companies operating in properties in the occupied territories, and the need for legal support.
