Caught at the Airport with Smuggled Tobacco - 3 Arrests

Three passengers were arrested at Larnaca Airport after a large quantity of tobacco products was found in their luggage. Customs officials, following an assessment of information, checked the luggage of passengers destined for the United Kingdom and discovered a total of 210 cartons of cigarettes (70 cartons per suitcase). The tobacco products did not bear the required health warnings in Greek and Turkish, indicating that they were duty-free. The passengers were detained for immediate offenses and the luggage was confiscated. They were later released after accepting an out-of-court settlement with the Customs Department, paying a total of €1,600 (€400 each).
