Flu Substrain 'K' Dominates in Cyprus – Second Wave Expected in February

In Cyprus, the 'K' substrain of the flu, which has caused international concern since November, dominates with over 50% of samples tested from hospitalized patients. The Ministry of Health warns of a second epidemic wave in February and urges citizens to get vaccinated. This year's vaccine covers over 55% of the 'K' substrain, although no vaccine provides 100% protection. Deaths recorded are mainly among the elderly, but also among younger people, highlighting the seriousness of the flu.
