Brake on Sales to Foreigners – AKEL's Plan to Save Cypriot Housing

AKEL has presented a comprehensive housing policy plan aimed at protecting the right to housing and controlling property sales to foreigners. The plan includes central coordination through new agencies, support for households and young people with subsidies and low-interest loans, special care for displaced persons, production of affordable housing through public-private partnerships, reduction of construction costs, support for student housing and vulnerable groups, addressing homelessness, and supporting rural areas. A key element of the plan is strict control of purchases by foreigners, with restrictions in sensitive areas, disclosure of the ultimate beneficial owner, and the abolition of the link between the 'golden visa' and property ownership.
