Erhiurman: 'We Must Be Carriers of the Solution' – 'We Exaggerate the Issue of Lack of Direct Flights'

Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhiurman stressed the need to adopt a policy that is not detached from society, so that politicians are part of the solution and not the problem. Speaking at an event commemorating the death anniversary of Fazil Kucuk, the first Vice President of the Cyprus Republic, Erhiurman stated that the current leadership must continue to prioritize the future of the Turkish Cypriot community. Erhiurman mentioned that Kucuk managed to maintain the identity and security of Turkish Cypriots in difficult times, walking on 'thin lines'. He also expressed the view that the issue of the lack of direct flights to the occupied territories is exaggerated, noting that many island countries do not have direct air connections. Erhiurman argued that promoting the cultural and natural values of the occupied territories is more important than securing direct flights. He referred to efforts to showcase the historical monuments, natural landscapes and gastronomy of the region.
