EU-US Trade Deal Approval Postponed Amidst Tariff Threats

The approval of the EU-US trade deal, which was agreed upon in July 2025, is set to be postponed by the European Parliament, according to sources. The postponement is expected to be announced on Wednesday, January 21st, in Strasbourg. The agreement, reached at Trump's golf course in Scotland, included a reduction of US tariffs on imports from the EU to 15%, in an effort to avoid higher tariffs threatened by Trump. This postponement is due to Trump's recent threats to impose tariffs related to Greenland, with German MEP Manfred Weber stating that the deal's approval is not possible at this stage. The EU had previously suspended retaliatory tariffs on US goods worth €93 billion during the negotiations. If the deal is not approved by the European Parliament or the EU's tariff suspension is not extended, tariffs on US products will come into effect on February 7th, further escalating trade tensions between the two sides.
