President of Cyprus Announces Significant Pension Increase in 2026

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, has stated his determination to proceed with deep reforms, regardless of the political cost, with the aim of returning economic growth to the citizens. Emphasis is placed on pension reform, with the goal of a significant increase in pensions in 2026, starting with low-income pensioners. The main government priorities include a strong and resilient economy, security (foreign policy, defense, migration), reforms, transparency and accountability, as well as improving the daily lives of citizens in areas such as health, education and housing. The President welcomes the recent decisions of the Parliament regarding the evaluation of teachers and tax reform, describing them as historic and important for the stability and continuation of the reforms. He emphasizes that the government's proposals received broad support, despite initial challenges. Furthermore, he commits to continuing the reforms, with a focus on supporting families, the middle class and young people, while noting a 6% increase in social spending for 2024-2025 and a further 6% increase for 2026. Investments are also being made in education and health.
