Interior Ministry Rejects Claims of Misleading Parliament on Co-owned Buildings Bill

The Ministry of Interior rejects claims made by the Chairman of the Interior Committee, Aristos Damianou, regarding misleading Parliament in relation to the bill on co-owned buildings. The Ministry emphasizes that it has made every effort to submit a functional and applicable bill, taking into account the concerns of the Provincial Self-Government Organizations (PSGOs). The bill was prepared as early as 2023 and discussed with the PSGOs, followed by a further consultation after the establishment of the PSGOs and the transfer of licensing authority to them. The Ministry presented a study covering all operational parameters of the framework, including costs and required personnel. According to the Ministry, the additional staff required will not exceed 30 people island-wide, and the cost will be covered by the proposed fees. The study was sent to the PSGOs on November 5, 2025, without any further comments being submitted. The Ministry announces that it will convene a new meeting with the PSGOs for further consultation and will resubmit the bill to Parliament, hoping for recognition of the necessity by the legislative body.
