Increased Attendance at Emergency Rooms During Holidays Due to Seasonal Viruses

An increase in cases at Emergency Departments (EDs) has been recorded during the holidays, due to the rise in seasonal viruses and low temperatures leading to greater concentration of people in enclosed spaces. Spokesperson for the Cyprus Public Health Service (CPHS), Charalambos Charilaou, stated that public hospitals are prepared to manage the increased demand, while Rapid Patient Flow Clinics are operating to serve non-urgent cases. Cases of influenza A are also being hospitalized, mainly individuals with underlying conditions and elderly people with low immune systems. Mr. Charilaou recommended adherence to personal hygiene measures, limiting movement, and avoiding contact with vulnerable groups.
