SEK General Secretary: Need to Re-evaluate Minimum Wage

Published January 2, 2026, 17:14

The General Secretary of SEK, Andreas Matsas, reiterated the need to re-evaluate the minimum wage, emphasizing the need to support the most vulnerable workers, given the ongoing inflation. This statement was made after a meeting of the trade unions SEK, PEO, and DEOK to coordinate their next steps. The trade unions agreed to submit a memorandum to the President of the Republic requesting a meeting to discuss four key issues: improving the minimum wage, redefining the strategy for employing workers from third countries, expanding collective agreements, and implementing the 'Ergani 2' software for better employment controls. SEK seeks to incorporate the minimum wage stipulated in sectoral collective agreements into the minimum wage. At the same time, the importance of implementing 'Ergani 2' to combat undeclared and under-declared work is emphasized. SEK considers the Labor Advisory Body an important institution for resolving labor issues.
