SEK General Secretary: Need to Re-evaluate the Minimum Wage

The General Secretary of SEK, Andreas Matsas, emphasized the need to re-evaluate the amount of the minimum wage, with the aim of substantially supporting the most vulnerable workers. The statement was made after a meeting of trade unions to coordinate their next steps. SEK, PEO, and DEOK agreed to send a memorandum to the President of the Republic, requesting a meeting to highlight four important issues. The first concerns improving the amount of the minimum wage, taking into account the increase in the cost of living and the incorporation of sectoral collective agreements. The remaining issues include redefining the parameters for the employment of workers from third countries, expanding collective agreements, and implementing the “Ergani 2” software for better employment controls and combating undeclared work. SEK seeks the regular convening of the Labour Advisory Board by the Minister of Labour to manage labour issues.
