Whitkov: 'Only One Point Remains to Be Settled' in Ukraine Negotiations

US envoy Steve Whitkov stated today that 'significant progress' has been made in talks to end the war in Ukraine, explaining that only one point remains to be settled, just hours before traveling to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I believe there is only one point left to be settled, we have discussed many versions of this point and that means it can be settled. And while both sides want to resolve it, we will resolve it,” Whitkov emphasized on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, without providing further details. “I think we’ve made a lot of progress,” he added. Whitkov pointed out that he will travel to Moscow today with Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, to meet with Putin, as indirect talks between Kyiv and Moscow continue to find a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine. Yesterday, the US envoy told Bloomberg that Moscow had requested the new meeting. The American negotiators will then travel to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, where talks at the working group level will continue 'military to military', Whitkov clarified. Trump is scheduled to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Davos today. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte emphasized that 'the US is willing to provide Ukraine with all the military material it needs'. American negotiators have been talking separately with Kyiv and Moscow for months in an effort to reach an agreement to end the war that has been raging for almost four years. However, many issues remain unresolved, including the fate of the regions of Ukraine occupied by the Russian army, as well as the security guarantees that will be given to Kyiv. Whitkov and Kushner had previously met with Putin in Moscow in December to present him with some proposals.
