G. Kentas: A Solution Like British Bases Would Be 'Humiliating' for Denmark

Assistant Professor of International Politics and Governance at the University of Nicosia, Giorgos Kentas, described a potential solution for Greenland based on the model of the British Bases in Cyprus as 'humiliating' for Denmark, as it would involve the surrender of sovereignty to the US without mutual consent. He emphasized the historical and legal differences between the two cases, as well as the lack of political and social acceptance of such a solution in Greenland. However, he noted that the establishment of American bases in Greenland could be a more acceptable alternative. He also highlighted the geopolitical peculiarities of Cyprus and the potential consequences of a unilateral US action in the region, including the activation of Article 5 of NATO.
