Development in Free Famagusta on Hold

Development in free Famagusta is on hold as the Local Plan for Ayia Napa, Paralimni and Deryneia is in the process of reviewing objections. The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zanettou, emphasized to the Energy Committee that the area cannot be considered a second-class province, given that 85% of Famagusta is under occupation. The need for equal treatment and sustainable development, with respect for the environment, was highlighted. The delay of the Local Plan is significant, as the initial plan was published in 2004 and the current one was submitted in 2017, with publication only in May 2024. The issue of ecological assessment and the protection of the cliff chat were also discussed.
