Taxi Drivers in Larnaca to Strike Over 'Survival Issues'

Taxi drivers in the Larnaca province will stage a four-hour work stoppage next Tuesday, January 13th, protesting issues of professional survival. The decision, announced by the Pan-Cypriot Federation of Urban Taxi Drivers (POAT), is due to the uncontrolled operation of passenger transport applications, particularly at Larnaca Airport. The work stoppage will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and POAT warns of further escalation of mobilizations, with a 24-hour strike on January 20th and an indefinite strike on January 28th, if no immediate and substantial action is taken by the authorities. The taxi drivers denounce the lack of enforcement of legislation and the unfair competition caused by the applications. They demand the immediate and complete disconnection of the signal and activity of applications at the airport, except for those licensed to operate in the Larnaca province, as well as the strict adherence to taxi base regulations by all applications. POAT emphasizes that the taxi drivers have exhausted all patience and that the responsibility for the consequences will lie with those who knew the situation and did not act.
