Offensive Comment by Fidias: Paralympic Committee Calls for Public Apology – Neither 'Slip of the Tongue' nor 'Humor'

The Cypriot Paralympic Committee strongly condemns the offensive comment made by MEP Fidias Panagiotou about people with intellectual disabilities during a podcast. The Committee emphasizes that the use of such expressions cannot be justified as a 'slip of the tongue' or 'humor', but constitutes a blatant insult to people with disabilities and the Paralympic Movement. The Committee calls on the MEP to publicly acknowledge his mistake and promote respect and awareness. The comment was made while para-swimmer Loizos Chrysanthou was explaining the classification categories of the Paralympic Games.
