Iliana Yotova has assumed the Presidency of Bulgaria following the early termination of Rumen Radev's term after his resignation. Yotova is the first female President in Bulgarian history. Her assumption of the Presidency is a result of the constitutional provision that assigns the duties to the Vice President in the event of an early termination of the President's term. Yotova has extensive experience in politics and the media. She has served as a Member of Parliament, a Member of the European Parliament, and Vice President of the Sofia Municipal Council. Additionally, she has worked as a journalist and reporter for Bulgarian National Television. Yotova holds a degree in Bulgarian Philology and has specialized at the École nationale d’administration (ENA) in France and the Centre for European Studies in Strasbourg. She is fluent in French, Russian, and English. The resignation of Rumen Radev and the assumption of the Presidency by Iliana Yotova mark a new phase in Bulgarian political life. Yotova is expected to play a significant role in promoting the country's interests and addressing the challenges it faces.
