Parliament Observes a Minute of Silence in Memory of George Vassiliou

The plenary session of the House of Representatives honored the memory of former President George Vassiliou by observing a minute of silence. George Vassiliou passed away on January 13th at the age of 94 and was buried with honors befitting a serving President. The President of the House, Zacharias Koulias, stated that the late President served the political life with consistency and a sense of responsibility, leaving a timeless mark on the history of Cyprus. His presidential term was characterized by efforts to find a just solution to the Cyprus issue, economic development, modernization of the state, and the promotion of culture and free radio and television. Particular emphasis was placed on the strategic promotion of Cyprus's accession to the European Union, which Mr. Koulias described as the crowning achievement of George Vassiliou's political career. The late President was distinguished by his foresight, determination, and boldness of choice. Mr. Koulias concluded that George Vassiliou served public office with principles and courage, leaving a valuable political and moral legacy for future generations.
