Cyprus Court Continues Hearing in Thanasis Nicolaou Case

The Limassol District Court continued to hear the private criminal prosecutions brought by the family of Thanasis Nicolaou. During today's proceedings, the defense of the five accused (Panikos Stavrianos, Andreas Iatropoulos, Nikos Sofocleous, Christakis Nathanail, and Christakis Kapiliotis) focused on the non-delivery of evidence by the prosecution and the advancement of preliminary objections. The defense argues that the deadline for receiving the material has passed and challenges the legality of the lawyer representing the family, Savvas Matsas, being a prosecutor, given his role as an independent criminal investigator in the original case. They also allege defamation of the accused in the media through statements by the lawyer and the family. The court decided to deliver all the evidence in digital and printed form within ten days and set a new date for the case, February 19th, for the submission of written arguments on the preliminary objections.
