Renowned Cypriot Set Designer Kostas Kavkaridis Passes Away

Well-known set designer and art teacher Kostas Kavkaridis passed away yesterday in Nicosia at the age of 80. Born in 1945, he studied set design at the Sofia Academy of Fine Arts and was a permanent collaborator of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (CTO). He also worked with the 'New Theatre', founded by his brother Vladimir, and other theatre companies, creating sets and costumes for numerous performances. Alongside set design, Kostas Kavkaridis was also involved in painting, teaching art in secondary schools. The Kavkaridis family has a long tradition in Cypriot theatre, with Vladimir and Stelios Kavkaridis also having distinguished themselves in the field. The news of Kostas Kavkaridis's death has caused sadness in the Cypriot art world. His contribution to set design and art in general is recognised by his colleagues and students. The funeral will be held in a private family circle, and a memorial event is expected to be organised by the CTO and other organisations.
