India: Landmark Year for Wildlife Conservation

The year 2025 marked a significant milestone for wildlife conservation in Assam, India, with zero incidents of Indian rhinoceros poaching. This success follows a similar achievement in 2023, demonstrating the effectiveness of strict protection measures. At Kaziranga National Park, the reappearance of the Indian wild dog, a species absent from the area for over three decades, was recorded. This reappearance is a significant indication of improved ecological conditions within the park. Furthermore, a rare tiger with golden-hued fur was identified, adding to the biodiversity of the region and attracting the interest of scientists and nature enthusiasts. The success in wildlife protection has led to an increase in tourism in Assam, with Kaziranga National Park recording record visitor numbers in 2024-2025. The rhinoceros population in the area has increased significantly, reaching approximately 4,000, compared to the 1,800 previously recorded.
