Historic Interest in the 10-Year Bond, Says Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, described the offer of €16.5 billion for the issuance of a €1 billion 10-year bond by the Republic of Cyprus as historic. He stressed that the secured interest rate of 3.25% is the lowest compared to recent issues by other countries, such as Greece and Portugal. Mr. Keravnos stated that this confirms the recognition of the government's sound economic policy by foreign investors, which creates stability and security. He also clarified that the issuance does not constitute additional debt, but a replacement for a maturing bond, and that the government has already reduced public debt to 55% of GDP.
