Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides' visit to Bahrain confirms Cyprus' desire to strengthen its relations with Gulf countries. The visit takes place at a particularly important time, as Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU and Bahrain presides over the GCC and is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The visit is considered strategically important and marks Cyprus' priority of upgrading relations with countries in the Middle East and the Gulf.
