Lavrov: US Seeks Control Over Nord Stream Pipelines

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused the United States of seeking to gain control of the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea. Referring to the explosions that caused serious damage to the pipelines in September 2022, Lavrov claimed that the US is seeking to dominate global energy markets, citing Venezuela and Iran as examples. He noted that the US seeks to take control of the Nord Stream pipelines, without offering further details. The explosions on the Nord Stream pipelines resulted in the interruption of Russian gas supplies to Europe, exacerbating the energy crisis. Both Russia and Western countries have described the incident as sabotage, however investigations have not led to definitive conclusions. Recently, a Ukrainian man was arrested in Italy as a suspect in coordinating the attacks. Lavrov stated that the US has already taken control of the world's largest oil reserves in Venezuela, and is seeking similar dominance in Iran. This statement follows a Wall Street Journal report about the interest of an American investor in buying the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Russia has repeatedly accused the West of sabotage on the Nord Stream pipelines, while Europe is conducting investigations to determine the causes of the explosions and those responsible. The case remains a significant point of friction in relations between Russia and the West.
