Cyprus Parliament to Debate Police Work Schedule Changes Amidst Union Protests

The Cyprus Parliament is expected to discuss changes to the police work schedule today, which have provoked strong reactions from their unions. Police representatives will present their positions to the Parliamentary Legal Committee and request a return to the previous system. The police unions, PASYDY and ISOTITA, have already expressed their disagreement in meetings with parliamentary parties, describing the changes as arbitrary and harmful to the well-being of police officers. ISOTITA, in particular, argues that the changes violate the Police Law. In parallel with the committee discussion, ISOTITA is organizing a protest event outside Parliament, where it will submit a memorandum of protest to the president. The union calls on its members to participate massively in the event. The focus is on the positions that the parliamentary parties will adopt and whether they will support the police unions, pushing for a return to the previous schedule.
