Cyprus has recorded a significant reduction in the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions by 28.9% during the period 2013-2024, according to Eurostat data. This reduction is higher than the EU average of 20%. Estonia, Ireland, and Finland recorded the largest reductions in the EU, while Malta was the only country to show an increase. In Cyprus, the electricity and natural gas sector remains the main source of emissions, accounting for over 40% of the total. The improvement in the energy sector is due to increased decarbonization.
