“Talking to Lakkotripis is Like Talking to Us”: How Papadopoulos’ Statements Contradict the Video Itself

The communication counterattack by the Director of the Press Office of the President, Viktor Papadopoulos, aimed at protecting Nikos Christodoulides and his Chief of Staff, Charalambos Charalambous, regarding the controversial video, appears to clash with the evidence presented in the footage itself. Despite assurances of legality and transparency, there are significant gaps in the Presidential Office’s explanations. The criticism focuses on four points: first, the use of “Corporate Social Responsibility” as a political alibi, as discussions about “contributions” are taking place simultaneously with references to facilitations and fast-track procedures. Second, the attempt to shift the discussion to who recorded the video, rather than its content, is characterized as a communication distraction. Third, the disclaimer regarding Giorgos Lakkotripis’ statements is refuted by the video itself, where Charalambos Charalambous states that investors can speak with Lakkotripis “as if they are speaking with us.” Fourth, defending the President’s integrity through personal assurances is not considered sufficient political accountability. The essence of the problem remains: what were state officials discussing with investors about multi-million investments, while simultaneously offering institutional facilitations? Invoking “hybrid attacks” and disclaimers do not answer these questions. The video raises serious questions about the transparency and legality of the procedures followed to attract investments, and a full and transparent investigation is needed to reveal the truth.
