Chaos in Parliament: Koulias Accuses Auditor General of Overstepping Authority

During the examination of the Audit Service report concerning the Social Support Agency, the Chairman of the Control Committee, Zacharias Koulias, accused the Auditor General, Andreas Papakonstantinou, of overstepping his authority, arguing that the observations in the report exceeded the limits of his competence. Mr. Koulias suggested that the Auditor General should run for political office if he wishes to express political opinions. MP Irene Charalambidou of AKEL strongly reacted to Mr. Koulias's remarks, accusing him of adopting the positions of Philippa Karsera and threatening to publicly denounce him for interfering in the work of the Auditor General. Mr. Papakonstantinou responded that the Audit Service merely expresses opinions and highlights potential risks, without making decisions, and that the Parliament and the executive branch are responsible for implementing the laws. The tension peaked with Ms. Charalambidou urging the Auditor General not to fear anyone and Mr. Koulias calling on her to proceed with the denunciation.
