Bolsonaro: Former Brazilian President Undergoes Surgery for Persistent Hiccups

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro underwent surgery to address a persistent case of hiccups. His wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, announced that the procedure involved “blocking the phrenic nerve.” Doctors are scheduling a second procedure for the left phrenic nerve, as the one on the right went smoothly. Bolsonaro had been suffering from the hiccups for nine months, with the condition being a daily and stressful ordeal. The surgery was deemed necessary to relieve him of the problem. Simultaneously, Bolsonaro was also hospitalized for hernia surgery. His health is in the spotlight as he has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2022 elections. Having received permission from the court to undergo the procedures, Bolsonaro issued a statement supporting the candidacy of his son, Flavio Bolsonaro, for the 2026 presidential elections. After his discharge from the hospital, he will return to prison to serve his sentence.
