Parliament Approves Insurance Coverage for the Army

Published January 22, 2026, 18:27

The Parliament unanimously approved an amendment to regulations establishing insurance coverage for members of the National Guard in the event of death or permanent total disability while performing their duties. The coverage amount is €115,000 lump sum for heirs, plus €95,000 per dependent, or €115,000 lump sum for the disabled person, plus €95,000 per dependent. The insurance coverage will be taken into account by the courts when awarding damages, reducing the final amount. These benefits are intended to compensate for the risk faced by army members during the performance of dangerous tasks. The amendment to the regulations also provides that the review of fire protection studies by the Fire Service will be carried out within six months instead of thirty days, in a uniform and standardized manner.
